Changes to Eris 2.0
Particularly important items are bolded.Web/Database Environment
- Apache upgraded to 2.0.x.
- mod_suphp will be installed and used for all PHP scripts. This means that in the future, your PHP scripts will run as your Eris user!
- mod_python and mod_perl will be disabled by default.
- mod_ruby is deprecated due to lack of usage.
- PostgreSQL updated to 8.1.x.
- MySQL updated to 4.1.x.
- SSL (https) for domains will be available, at an extra cost of $10 per month.
Mail Environment
- qmail replaced with Exim.
- Usage of .qmail-* deprecated.
Alias support will be migrated to individual alias files per domain. This conversion will occur automatically when Eris 2.0 enters production and directions on how to use the new format will be provided (trust me, it's way easier). - SpamAssassin will be run by Exim, rather than maildrop/etc.
Initially, all your domains will use your default SpamAssassin settings. Multiple configurations are not supported at this time.
- Usage of .qmail-* deprecated.
- SMTP AUTH via SSL/TLS supported, with throwaway passwords.
- SpamAssassin upgraded to 3.1.
Language Support
- PHP upgraded to 5.1.x. Usage of 4.x is deprecated.
- Usage of perl versions < 5.8 is deprecated.
- Usage of python versions < 2.4 is deprecated.
- GCC upgraded to 3.4.4.
- Usage of Ruby versions < 1.8 is deprecated.
- Usage of any other language currently installed on Eris is deprecated unless installation is requested again.
User Environment
- Home / web directory space increased to 335 GB (from 38GB).
- Due to the significant increase in space, disk quotas will be enabled. Previously, home/web space was 38GB in total size and shared among 26 users.
- Each user will now be allocated 10GB.
- For information on allocation and purchasing more disk space, read the disk usage policy.
